Some of our favorite clothes coming out in 2021

This story is part of our year-end This Year in Gear series, bringing together the most notable releases of 2021..

The pandemic has shaped the apparel industry over the past year and a half, influencing buying habits, trends and new releases. Comfortable styles – sweatpants, hoodies and sneakers – exploded, as expected, but isolation also allowed brands to once again focus on producing unique and meaningful products. There are countless versions worth citing, but these are a few of our favorites.

Bristol Studio Triple Hem Shorts

Hem has been a hot topic recently. Some are convinced that the shorter the better, while our collective adoration for nostalgic outfits – looking at you, vintage NBA uniforms – has come closer than ever to capri-style shorts. However, Bristol Studio is doing something we haven’t seen yet: three hems on shorts! Each layer is a different color, but all come with a woven logo tag. At the very least, the triple hem gives texture to an otherwise solid pair of mesh stockings.

Linen shirt Dandy Del Mar The Tonga

style

In the summer it’s great to look relaxed. In fact, the season is all about recreation: sitting in the sun, sipping a drink at bedtime, and stepping in the water to cool off. In our opinion, your clothes should tell others how you feel – in this case, “casually”. This is exactly what Dandy Del Mar’s Tonga Linen shirt does. With mother-of-pearl buttons, an Alhambra check pattern, a wide-open collar, pleats to the front and a somewhat sun-washed finish, it’s the right option for a dinner or a day by the pool.

Aime Léon Dore Fleece Lining

style

After a few weeks of hype, Aimé Léon Dore’s FW21 collection is finally here. Filled with crew-neck sweatshirts, New Era collaborations, knit sweaters and socks, the fall also has plenty of outerwear – obviously. This fleece jacket caught my eye. It’s more structured than most of the other category entries and the pockets are a nice touch.

We love Wythe. The independent label gives J.Crew-meets-Western a really, really cool look. And that descriptor doesn’t even really do the parts justice. Take a look at it for yourself, you are sure to find something you like.

Japanese reproduction brand TOYS McCOY has dropped its own ode to Lee’s Rider jeans, the brand’s most popular style. (Think what the 501s are for Levi’s, but for Lee.) They’re true to the original, throughout the back patch. But they are all TOYS: the badge says TOYS McCOY, as do the interior labels.
