What clothes can I wear in Qatar?

Non-Qatari women do not need to wear the abaya, which is the long black robe that covers the whole body, nor do they need to cover their hair.

However, they should make sure to cover their shoulders and wear skirts, dresses, and pants that cover the knees so as not to break the laws of the land.

The dress code is applicable in places like malls, markets they call souks, on the Corniche which is Doha’s waterfront and other public areas where the dress code must be adhered to.

Here are some recommendations for women:

  • Tank tops, blouses, v-neck tops, and short-sleeved shirts that cover the shoulders and don’t show cleavage
  • Maxi dresses and other dresses covering the shoulders and knees
  • jeans and pants

As for the beaches, most of them in Doha belong to hotels, so you can wear your bikini or whatever swimsuit you have.

The only beach that does not belong to a hotel and is a public place is Katara Beach, where the dress code applies.

During this time, men are allowed to wear long cargo pants and light chinos.

However, they cannot wear jeans, athletic shorts or chinos that do not cover the knee.

Sleeveless tank tops and offensive slogan t-shirts are unacceptable.

What clothes can’t I wear in Qatar?

Men cannot wear clothes that show shoulders and knees.

The same goes for women, however, women’s clothing tends to be a bit more specific when it comes to regulations.

If you are a woman traveling to Qatar, you cannot wear clothing that:

  • show your shoulders
  • show your knees
  • show any cleavage
  • is tight

Is there a dress code at Doha airport?

Hamad International Airport in Doha is a major international airport and therefore the dress code does not apply there.

However, if you can land at the airport dressed according to the code, then it will be easier to leave the airport.

Indeed, once you leave the airport, you find yourself in a public area where the dress code applies.

That’s why you’ll either have to go change in one of the airport toilets or make sure you land in proper attire.
